An apple from Tuffaha,
An apple from an apple tree
an apple redolent of musk and ambergris.
Scented with musk and ambergris its apple
أخذتُهاI took it منfrom كفِّthe hand of ظبيٍa gazelle وقدand already
أخذتُها من كفِّ ظبيٍ وقد
كانتwas إليهtoward him النفسُthe soul مرتاحهinclined
كانت إليه النفسُ مرتاحه
I took it from a gazelle’s hand, and already
I took it from the palm of a gazelle and
my soul was drawn to him.
To it the soul was comfortable
ماnot مَسَّهاtouched it طيبٌperfume ولكنهاbut it
ما مَسَّها طيبٌ ولكنها
باشرهاhe touched it بالكفِّwith the hand والراحهand the palm
باشرها بالكفِّ والراحه
No perfume touched it, but
No perfume has touched it but
he had touched it with his hand and palm.
The palm and the comfort have spoiled it
