الثوابيُّ فتى ليس له

في سوى السؤدد والمجد وَطَر

في سوى السؤدد والمجد وَطَر

Al-Thawabi is a young man who has

The virtuous youth, for him naught else

no desire for anything but eminence and glory.

But generosity and glory matter

لم يطق أن يتعاطى جودَه

لم يطق أن يتعاطى جودَه

فتعاداه لنا العام المطر

فتعاداه لنا العام المطر

It could not rival his generosity,

He could not bear to stint his gifts

so the rain has shunned him this year, to our loss.

So this rainy year has brought us bounty
