ألا يا ضارباً العبادِ
قصدتyou targeted الحسنal-Hasan ويحكwoe to you بالفسادِwith malice
قصدت الحسن ويحك بالفسادِ
Ah, you who strike the people!
Listen, O you who beat the people!
You sought to harm al-Hasan—woe to you!
You targeted al-Hasan with malice—woe to you!
أتضربُdo you strike مثلهone like him بالسوطwith the whip عشراten times
أتضربُ مثله بالسوط عشرا
ضُربتَmay you be stricken بفالجِwith the paralysis of ابنِson of أبيAbi (father of) دُوادِDu'ad
ضُربتَ بفالجِ ابنِ أبي دُوادِ
Would you lash a man like him ten times?
Do you strike one like him ten times with the whip?
May you be struck with palsy, O son of Abī Duʾād!
May you be stricken with Ibn Abi Du'ad's paralysis!
