وأنَّهُم يُتلفون ما ملكوا
The fault of Banū Makhlad is their open-handedness,
The fault of the sons of Makhlad is their generosity,
and that they squander whatever they possess;
And that they squander what they own,
وأنَّand that فيهمin them لمنfor whoever يُلايِنُهمtreats them gently

and that, for whoever deals gently with them,
And that in them, for whoever treats them gently,
they have gentleness—and thorns for all others.
There is gentleness, while for others there are thorns.
