إِذاwhen صِلَةٌa gift وافَتكَcomes to you مِنfrom صاحِبٍa friend فَكُنthen be
إِذا صِلَةٌ وافَتكَ مِن صاحِبٍ فَكُن
لَهُto him شاكِراًgrateful إِذsince كُنتَyou were مِنهُfrom him عَلىin ذِكرِremembrance
لَهُ شاكِراً إِذ كُنتَ مِنهُ عَلى ذِكرِ
When a gift from a friend comes your way, then be
When a gift comes to you from a friend, be
If a friend greets you, then be
grateful to him, for he kept you in mind.
grateful to him, since you were in his thoughts.
Grateful to him, for you were in his thoughts.
وَإِنّيand indeed I لأَعتَدُّI surely value اليَسيرَa little مِنof النَدىgenerosity
وَإِنّي لأَعتَدُّ اليَسيرَ مِن النَدى
وَأُتبِعُهُand I follow it بِالحَمدِwith praise مِنّيfrom me وَبِالشُكرِand with thanks
وَأُتبِعُهُ بِالحَمدِ مِنّي وَبِالشُكرِ
Indeed, I esteem even the slightest generosity,
And I indeed value even a little generosity,
Truly, I hold even a little dew
and follow it with praise and thanksgiving of my own.
