يَقولُsays ليَto me العَذولُthe reproacher وَلَمand did not أُطِعهُobey him
يَقولُ ليَ العَذولُ وَلَم أُطِعهُ
تَسَلَّconsole yourself فَقَدfor indeed بَدَتhas appeared لِلحبِّon the beloved لِحيَهa beard
تَسَلَّ فَقَد بَدَت لِلحبِّ لِحيَه
The reproacher says to me, though I did not obey him:
The censurer admonishes me but I do not obey
“Console yourself, for a beard has appeared on the beloved.”
He has asked insistently though love's beard has become apparent
تَخيَّلَhe imagined أَنَّهاthat it شانَتmarred حَبيبيmy beloved
تَخيَّلَ أَنَّها شانَت حَبيبي
وَعِنديand in my view أَنَّهاthat it زَينٌbeauty وَحِليَهand adornment
وَعِندي أَنَّها زَينٌ وَحِليَه
He imagined it had marred my beloved,
He imagines she has reviled my beloved
But in my view it is beauty and adornment.
While to me she is an adornment and jewelry
