أَهلُهُ أَن يَفيقَ عَمّا قَريبِ
Someone else went mad from a passing affliction, and so
Others are struck by a mere whim, wishing
His family hoped he would soon regain his senses.
For recovery from this momentary lapse;
وَفُؤاديand my heart بِعارضينby two downy cheeks مُصابٌis stricken
وَفُؤادي بِعارضين مُصابٌ
فَهوَso it is داءٌan illness أَعياhas defeated دَواءَthe remedy الطَبيبِof the physician
فَهوَ داءٌ أَعيا دَواءَ الطَبيبِ
But my heart is stricken by two downy cheeks:
Yet my heart is afflicted by two lasting blows,
An illness that has defeated the physician’s remedy.
An illness too profound for any physician's cure.
