ياO أَيُّهاyou المَولىthe master الَّذيwho جُودُهُhis generosity
كَالبَحرِlike the sea فيin تَيارِهِits current الزاخِرِsurging
O master, whose generosity
O Master, whose generosity is
is like the sea in its surging current,
Like the ocean in its abundant flow
وَمِنand from ضِياءٍradiance وَجهُهُhis face مُشرِقٌradiant
مِنfrom بَدأةِthe beginning of الأَمرِthe matter إِلىto الآخِرِthe end
and whose face shines with radiance
And whose face radiates a brilliance
from the outset to the end:
From the beginning to the end.
دَخِرتI reserved وُدّيmy affection لَكُمُfor you دائِماًalways
ماnot لِسواكُمfor anyone but you أَناI بِالداخِرِone who reserves
I have always reserved my affection for you;
My affection is reserved for you always
I reserve it for no one else.
There is none but you for whom I care
وَقَدand indeed فَخَرتُI took pride بِانتِمائيin my belonging لَكُمto you
أَعزِزhow exalted! بِعَبدٍis a servant بِكُمُin you فاخِرِtaking pride
And I have taken pride in belonging to you;
And I take pride in my allegiance to you
how exalted is a servant who takes pride in you!
Honored to be your devoted servant.
لَولاwere it not for نَدىdew إِحسانِكمyour kindness فيamong الوَرىhumankind
كُنتُI would have been كَعَظمٍlike a bone هامِدٍlifeless ناخِرِcrumbling
Were it not for the dew of your kindness among humankind,
Were it not for the dew of your kindness upon the earth
I would have been like a lifeless, crumbling bone.
I would be like lifeless, crumbling bones.
وَإِنَّand indeed بَحرَthe sea of جُودكُمyour generosity مُفعَمٌbrimful
يَجريflows بِفُلكٍwith a ship لِلنَدىfor bounty ماخِرِcleaving the water
And indeed the sea of your generosity is brimful;
For your generosity is an ocean brimming over
it flows, carrying a ship of bounty that cleaves the water.
Flowing with ships bearing gifts.
وَمَنand whoever يَحِدturns aside عَنaway from بابِthe gate of إِحسانِكُمyour kindness
يَعِشwill live كَعَبدٍlike a servant خاسِرٍsuffering loss داخِرِabased
And whoever turns away from the gate of your kindness
And he who turns away from your door of kindness
will live like a ruined, abased servant.
Lives like a wretched, losing slave.
يَضحَكlaughs أَوor يَهزَأُscoffs مِنat فِعلِهِhis deed
كَمhow many ضاحِكٍone laughing مِنهُat him بِهِat him ساخِرِmocking
One laughs or scoffs at his deed—
How many who laugh or mock his actions
how many laugh at him and mock him!
Laugh while he is mocked by fate.
