My heart has no desire for anyone,

Since a piece of my liver departed.

How can I have an eye that sees anyone but the one

Who is my soul, gone from my body?

A white pearl that dwelt in my heart

Was snatched from me and so sapped my endurance.

Indeed, my eye is like a gushing spring:

If you draw water from it, it increases.

And grief has worn my heart away, so

It is forever in nothing but misery.

I await death and find it slow in coming,

Whether it comes tonight or tomorrow.
