    May God preserve your well-being,

and make the foes’ dwellings desolate.

When the light of your full moon shines forth,

then all the stars are hidden by it.

You took God’s word as medicine,

so His verses were the cure.

Some people have aspired to your office,

but their standing bars them from eminence.

Where, then, is learning, and where is forbearance,

and a character whose wellsprings are pure?

They are a band that cannot attain eminence,

even if it has striven barefoot.

When there is a tear, you mend it,

yet that band cannot mend what it has torn.

And if a crisis arises, you stand firm against it,

while their judgments falter before it.

Your innate qualities are gentleness and kindness toward us,

while their dispositions are wholly harsh.

You pray over seven of them,

and the eighth’s soul floats lifeless.

They lie lifeless in their earth,

and a wind blows dust over their grave.

So may you always remain in good health,

trailing the ample hems of radiance.

And may God bring you to the spring of life,

so that through it you live a full hundred years.

    وَعشرونَ أَيضاً هِيَ الكافيَه

    And if He adds ten, that is all one could wish;

and twenty, too, would be enough.

And these rhymes have come in full,

so no rhyme was left for me after them.
