أَما أَنَّهُ لَولا ثَلاثٌ أُحِبُّها

أَما أَنَّهُ لَولا ثَلاثٌ أُحِبُّها

تَمَنَّيتُ أَني لا أُعَدُّ مِن الأَحيا

تَمَنَّيتُ أَني لا أُعَدُّ مِن الأَحيا

Indeed, were it not for three things that I love,

Indeed, were it not for three things I love,

I would wish not to be counted among the living:

I would wish not to be counted among the living.

فَمِنها رَجائي أَن أَفوزَ بِتَوبَةٍ

فَمِنها رَجائي أَن أَفوزَ بِتَوبَةٍ

تُكَفِّرُ لي ذَنباً وَتُنجِحُ لي سَعيا

تُكَفِّرُ لي ذَنباً وَتُنجِحُ لي سَعيا

one is my hope that I may attain repentance

For among them is my hope of attaining repentance

that expiates a sin for me and brings my striving success;

that atones for my sin and brings success to my striving;

وَمِنهُنَّ صَوني النَفسَ عَن كُلِّ جاهِل

وَمِنهُنَّ صَوني النَفسَ عَن كُلِّ جاهِل

لَئيم فَلا أَمشِي إِلى بابِهِ مَشيا

لَئيم فَلا أَمشِي إِلى بابِهِ مَشيا

another is my guarding my soul from every ignorant,

And among them is guarding myself from every ignorant

ignoble man, so that I never walk to his door;

base fellow, so I never walk to his door;

وَمِنهُنَّ أَخذي بِالحَديثِ إِذا الوَرى

وَمِنهُنَّ أَخذي بِالحَديثِ إِذا الوَرى

نَسُوا سُنَّةَ المُختارِ وَاتَّبعوا الرَأيا

نَسُوا سُنَّةَ المُختارِ وَاتَّبعوا الرَأيا

and another is my adherence to the Prophetic tradition when mankind

And among them is my adherence to prophetic tradition when people

forget the Chosen One’s way and follow mere opinion.

أَتَترك نَصّاً لِلرَسولِ وَتَقتدي

أَتَترك نَصّاً لِلرَسولِ وَتَقتدي

بِشَخصٍ لَقَد بَدَّلتَ بِالرَشدِ الغِيّا

بِشَخصٍ لَقَد بَدَّلتَ بِالرَشدِ الغِيّا

Would you abandon a text from the Messenger and follow

a mere person? You have indeed traded right guidance for error.
