أَما أَنَّهُ لَولا ثَلاثٌ أُحِبُّها

أَما أَنَّهُ لَولا ثَلاثٌ أُحِبُّها

تَمَنَّيتُ أَني لا أُعَدُّ مِن الأَحيا

تَمَنَّيتُ أَني لا أُعَدُّ مِن الأَحيا

Indeed, were it not for three things I love,

Had it not been for three things I wish for

I would wish not to be counted among the living.

I would not count myself among the living:

فَمِنها رَجائي أَن أَفوزَ بِتَوبَةٍ

فَمِنها رَجائي أَن أَفوزَ بِتَوبَةٍ

تُكَفِّرُ لي ذَنباً وَتُنجِحُ لي سَعيا

تُكَفِّرُ لي ذَنباً وَتُنجِحُ لي سَعيا

Among them is my hope of attaining repentance

My hope to attain sincere repentance

that expiates a sin of mine and makes my striving succeed.

That absolves my sins and makes my efforts fruitful,

وَمِنهُنَّ صَوني النَفسَ عَن كُلِّ جاهِل

وَمِنهُنَّ صَوني النَفسَ عَن كُلِّ جاهِل

لَئيم فَلا أَمشِي إِلى بابِهِ مَشيا

لَئيم فَلا أَمشِي إِلى بابِهِ مَشيا

Another is my keeping myself away from every ignorant

To protect myself from every lowly ignoramus

scoundrel, so I do not walk to his door.

So I walk not to his door a single step,

وَمِنهُنَّ أَخذي بِالحَديثِ إِذا الوَرى

وَمِنهُنَّ أَخذي بِالحَديثِ إِذا الوَرى

نَسُوا سُنَّةَ المُختارِ وَاتَّبعوا الرَأيا

نَسُوا سُنَّةَ المُختارِ وَاتَّبعوا الرَأيا

Another is my adherence to Hadith when people

To adhere to the Prophet's way though people forget it

have forgotten the Chosen One’s way and followed opinion.

And follow their opinions instead of his guidance.

أَتَترك نَصّاً لِلرَسولِ وَتَقتدي

أَتَترك نَصّاً لِلرَسولِ وَتَقتدي

بِشَخصٍ لَقَد بَدَّلتَ بِالرَشدِ الغِيّا

بِشَخصٍ لَقَد بَدَّلتَ بِالرَشدِ الغِيّا

Do you abandon a text of the Messenger and follow

Would you forsake the Prophet's way and follow

a person? You have indeed traded guidance for error.

A person who has replaced guidance with error?
