    I stir you, for the generous man is moved.

    And one like you bestows rewards, but is not rewarded.

    O ‘Izz al-Din, do not neglect an admirer

    Who gains elevation and pride through you.

    And your root in noble virtues—what a root!

    All noble qualities are accorded to it.

    إِذا أَصلٌ ذكا كَرُمَ النِحازُ

    And you are its branch, pure in your roots;

    When a root flourishes, its stock is noble.

    لَها مِن رَقمِ جودِكُمُ طِرازُ

    You have clothed the pious in robes of honor;

    They bear a border embroidered with your generosity.

    And you have favored al-Athir with every kindness,

    So his allegiance has turned toward your eminence.

    The tale of generosity, recounted from your bounty,

    Is literal truth; all others are metaphor.

    So there is no banner of glory but

    Stands planted in the courtyard of your home.

    And there is no opportunity for good but

    Is seized by the bounty of your generosity.

    عَليكَ لَهُ اِحتراسٌ وَاحتِرازُ

    So may God preserve him, content of eye;

    His vigilance and caution are for your sake.
