بَقائي لَقَد أَصبَحت نَحوَك شَيِّقا

O very soul of my life—by Him through whose abiding

O essence of my life—by the one whose continued life

I abide—I have grown ardently yearning for you.

You dwell within my heart; yet it is my eye

that, seeing you, receives the boon that banishes misery.

وَما كانَ ظَنّي أَنك الدَهرَ تارِكي

Never did I think you would forsake me forever,

And I never thought that you would forsake me forever,

even were I to become, among all humankind, a castaway.
