تَفَرَّدتُI stood alone لماwhen أَنthat جُمِعتُI was gathered بِذاتيwithin my own self
وَأُسكنتُand I was stilled لماwhen أَنthat بَدَتappeared حَرَكاتيmy movements
I stood alone when I was gathered within my own self.
And I was stilled when my movements appeared.
فَلَمso … did not أَرَI see فيin الأَكوانِthe worlds غَيريanyone other than me لأَنَّنيbecause I
أَزَحتُI withdrew عَنfrom الأَغيارِall others روحَthe spirit of حَياتيmy life
So I saw none but myself in the worlds, because I
withdrew the spirit of my life from all others.
وَقَدَّستُهاand I sanctified it عَنbeyond رُتبةٍa station لَوif تَعَيَّنَتit became fixed
لَهاfor it دائِماًforever دامَتwould endure لَهاfor it حَسَراتيmy sorrows
And I held it too sacred for a station that, were it fixed
for it forever, my sorrows for it would endure.
فَهاso behold أَناI قَدalready أَصعَدتُهاI raised it عَنfrom حَضيضهاits lowest depths
إلىto رُتبةٍa station تَقضيordains لَهاfor it بِثَباتِwith constancy
So here I am: I have raised it from its lowest depths
to a station that ordains constancy for it.
تُشاهِدُit beholds مَعنىًa meaning رَوضُهُits garden أَذهَبَbanished العناweariness
وَأَيقَظَنيand awakened me لِلحَقto the Truth بَعدَafter سِناتيmy slumbers
It beholds a meaning whose garden banished weariness
and awakened me to the Truth after my slumbers.
أَقامَتit dwelt زَماناًfor a time فيin حِجابٍa veil فَعِندَماthen, when

It dwelt for a time behind a veil; then, when
the veil receded from it, it sought secluded retreats,

so that in them we might make up what we missed of the sweetness of our companionship
with it, and attain union after dispersion.
