My longing for that radiant, resplendent face

Is intense longing, and my body is frail and feeble.

    فَالطَرفُ وَالقَلبُ مِنّي الساهرُ الساهي

    You kept my eye awake and made my heart distraught with love;

So my eye is wakeful, and my heart distracted.

You plundered my heart and forbid disclosure of what

It endures—oh, its longing for the plunderer who forbids!

You outshone every fair one with your splendor; there is no

Equal to the dazzling, splendid one among the two luminaries.

You became engrossed in love when you were distracted by it

From everything—alas for the engrossed, distracted one!

O master, who has no equal among people,

And how many slaves like me he has in love!

If I cross your mind in my lifetime

For a moment, that would suffice me in place of honor and rank.
