Silk gained honor by becoming your garment.

Why not, when your body is softer to the touch than silk?

O young gazelle, the warier you grew of me,

the more my heart grew at ease with you.

People's minds went blank when he began

to stroll gently in a satin coat,

    breathing forth a musk-scented waft,

smiling to reveal fresh white teeth within dusky lips.

He makes a third with the sun and moon, and is the most perfect of them

in radiance, and the farthest beyond the reach of touch.

Indeed, the difference in height makes plain

who holds the highest seat among the stations.

For the full moon is in the first heaven, and the sun in the

middle, while the one I love dwells in the outermost, starless sphere.
