And indeed, I have been content with the handsome one's company,

And his conversation—not kissing him or embracing him.

Indeed, I fear to mention what you do not desire,

For fear my heart would suffer the pain of parting from him.

A young gazelle whose pasture lies between my ribs,

A moon outshining the full moon across its horizons.

He is sparing of speech; his modesty has protected him,

And his virtue protects him from his lovers.

Sweet, exquisitely beautiful, with a pleasing disposition,

And noble qualities that have attested to his lineage.

    فَالعينُ تَستجليه نوراً ساطِعاً

    My eye and my heart have been bound by his beauty;

So the eye beholds him as a radiant light,

And the soul finds him sweet in his character.
