    O bough upon a sand dune, with a moon above it,

    When shall I see you turn toward the yearning lover?

    O matchless one in beauty, is there a helper for a youth

    Whom the two tormentors, sleeplessness and wasting sickness, have melted away?

    وَهاجَهُ الفاتِنانِ الدَلَّ وَالهيَفُ

    Your green cheek-down took him captive, and he fell in love;

    And the two charmers, coquetry and slenderness, inflamed him.

    أَصابه الساحِرانِ الغُنجُ وَالوَطَفُ

    Enslaved by love, he has never ceased to be enchanted by beauty;

    The two sorcerers, coy charm and luxuriant lashes, have smitten him.

    O my reproacher, leave me be—or heap on more reproach:

    I am indeed bewitched by one whose face is freckled.

    وَالنَومُ مع مُقلَتي مُذ غابَ مُختَلِفُ

    His face and my heart were in accord when he departed;

    And sleep and my eye have been at odds since he vanished.
