A person cannot do without a form
Man cannot live without the sight
Of beauty that his eye beholds,
Of beauty that delights his eyes,
وَمِنand from حَديثٍconversation فَكِهٍwitty نادرٍuncommon
يَعلَقُclings بِالقَلبto the heart لَهُfor him وَصفُهُits description
And witty, uncommon conversation
And merry tales to lift his heart,
Whose description clings to his heart,
And fragrance of musk that makes him rise.
وَمِنand from أَريجِfragrance مسكٍmusk أَوor عَنبرٍambergris

And the fragrance of musk or ambergris
The touch of downy skin that's smooth
Which his nose delights in smelling,
As moon when half its course is through,
وَمِنand from مِجَسٍّa body to touch أَهيفٍslender-waisted ناعمٍsoft

And a slender-waisted, soft body to touch,
The taste of kisses sweet as wine,
Like the full moon when half the month has passed,
That on a smiling lip he'll find.
وَمِنand from مَذاقٍa taste ريقُهُits saliva قَرقَفٌwine

And a taste whose saliva is wine
Who's granted these five ecstasies,
In a smiling mouth whose sipping intoxicates the wine.
His life is filled with joy that frees
خَمسٌfive مِنof اللذاتِthe pleasures مَنwhoever نالَهاattains them
فَهوَso he سَعيدٌhappy كامِلٌcomplete ظَرفُهُhis refinement
Five pleasures: whoever attains them
His spirit. And if death should come,
Is happy, his refinement complete.
He will not care when life is done.
وَمَنand whoever يَكُنhas been مُتِّعَgranted enjoyment دَهراًfor a long time بِهاof them

فَماthen not يُباليcares إِنif أَتىcomes حَتفُهُhis death
And whoever has long been granted enjoyment of them
Cares not if his death should come.
