قَدindeed فاحَwafted مِنهاfrom her أَريجُfragrance المِسكِthe musk لِلناشِقfor the one who inhales
قَد فاحَ مِنها أَريجُ المِسكِ لِلناشِق
وَفوَّقَتand nocked عَينُهاher eye سَهماًan arrow لَناfor us راشِقpiercing
وَفوَّقَت عَينُها سَهماً لَنا راشِق
The fragrance of musk has wafted from her to the one who inhales it.
And her eye has nocked a piercing arrow for us.
ياO وَيحَalas for صَبٍّa lovesick one بعيدِfar from المُلتَقىreunion عاشِقa lover
يا وَيحَ صَبٍّ بعيدِ المُلتَقى عاشِق
كَأَنّماas though قَلبُهhis heart فيin مِخلَبِthe talon of الباشِقthe sparrowhawk
كَأَنّما قَلبُه في مِخلَبِ الباشِق
Oh, alas for a lovesick lover, far from reunion!
As though his heart were in a sparrowhawk’s talon.
