He gave us a bough of verdant myrtle—
He gave us a branch of fresh myrtle,
the foremost of judges, ally of bounty and valor.
The foremost of judges, ally of generosity and valor.

When he saw my sickness, he gave it with a young gazelle,
When he saw my illness, he gave it with a young gazelle,
sweet in his coy cruelty; he proved the healing physician.
Sweet in his unjust reproaches—so he became the healer, the physician.
