وَأَسمرُ لدنٌ أَورثا جسميَ الرَدى
And in the lesson I was met by a fair, smooth-skinned one,
And at the lesson, one fair-skinned and soft met me,
and a supple, dusky one—the pair bequeathed my body death.
And one brown-skinned and supple; both brought death upon my body.
فَذاso this one هَزَّbrandished مِنfrom عطفيهِhis two flanks رُمحاa spear مُثقفاًstraightened

For this one brandished from his flanks a well-straightened spear,
So this one brandished from his flanks a straightened spear,
while that one drew from his eyelids a keen Indian blade.
And that one unsheathed from his eyelids a keen sword of Indian steel.
