وان سبقت فرط العزاء دموعي
Halt at those dwelling places of mine you both recognize,
Stop at what you both know of my meadows
even if my tears have outstripped the utmost fortitude.
Even if my tears outpoured from excess sorrow

We salute, despite long decay, the trace of a deserted campsite,
We revive throughout time a habit of closeness
as though it had never held a gathering of companions.
As if those long gone were never absent

And what do we salute—traces that seem like
Why revive impressions as if they were
a worn, torn garment at the lower end of Salmanayn?
Grinding at the base of steps once climbed

وقعن فما يسأمن طول وقوع
As though three doves at its campsite
Like three doves fallen in its courtyard
had alighted, never tiring of their long stay.
Ceaselessly colliding as they descend

لبعض هوى نفسي لغير مطيع
And I am indeed lovesick, as you know, and I
Though I pour what I know, I know I’m still
am certainly not obedient to some desires of my soul.
Partly desiring what won’t obey
