Turn aside, you two; let us greet the clan’s dwellings at al-Sind.
I inclined my abode from the neighborhood of joy towards Sindh
And is anyone in those dwellings today?
Is there anyone left in those dwellings today?

Was it when it was sheathed, leaving them no wrong to avenge—
I revived its features but he left no trace for them
A sword the shaggy-maned lion had girded on—
A sword unsheathed by a lion with a glorious beard

That you drew it against yourselves, O sons of Hasan?
You slipped it from your grip, O sons of Hassan
No success is yours, to the very end of time.
You have no other success until the end of time

And it became the uncontested possession of the sons of al-Abbas.
And it became perfectly clear for the Abbasids
He cuts off the noses of the rebellious and envious.
Severing the noses of the people of tyranny and envy

And it became like the lion’s uvula in his mouth;
And it became like a lioness's throat in its jaws
And who would seek anything in the lion’s mouth?
And whoever attempts anything in the jaws of a lion

By its two cheek-straps—people whose judgment slept,
Putting to sleep people whose dreams about us, you and it
Heedless of us, of you, and of it, in a cheetah’s sleep.
Were like the slumber of a leopard
