I gazed as though from behind a pane of glass,

toward the dwelling, peering through the water of longing.

With two eyes that at times drown in weeping,

so my sight grows dim, then at times they clear and I see.

What streams from the eye is not its tears,

but rather a soul that melts and drips.

Thus my eye never clears of the engulfing water,

nor does my tear drip from longing’s relentless oppression.
