وهم جمرة لا يصطلي الناس نارهم

وهم جمرة لا يصطلي الناس نارهم

توقد لا تطفا لريب النوائبُ

توقد لا تطفا لريب النوائبُ

And they are an ember; no one warms himself at their fire.

They are embers that people do not kindle their fire,

It blazes, unquenched by the vicissitudes of calamity.

Lit to never be extinguished by the turns of fate.

لنا جَمَراتٌ ليس للناس مثلهم

لنا جَمَراتٌ ليس للناس مثلهم

ثَلاَثٌ فَقَدْ جُرِّبْنَ كلّ التَّجاربِ

ثَلاَثٌ فَقَدْ جُرِّبْنَ كلّ التَّجاربِ

We have embers whose like no people possess—

We have embers unlike any people have,

Three, for they have been tested in every trial:

Three who have been tested by every trial.

نُمَيْرٌ وعَبْسٌ تُتَّقَى صَقرَاتُهَا

نُمَيْرٌ وعَبْسٌ تُتَّقَى صَقرَاتُهَا

وضَبّةُ قَوْمٌ بَأْسُهُمْ غَيْرُ كاذِبِ

وضَبّةُ قَوْمٌ بَأْسُهُمْ غَيْرُ كاذِبِ

Numayr and ʿAbs, whose scorching blasts are feared,

Numayr and 'Abs whose falcons are feared,

And Ḍabba, a people whose might is no lie.

And Dhabbah, a people whose might is no lie.

إلى كلِّ قومٍ قَدْ دَلَفْنَا بجَمْرَةٍ

إلى كلِّ قومٍ قَدْ دَلَفْنَا بجَمْرَةٍ

لها عارضٌ جَونٌ قَويُّ المناكبِ

لها عارضٌ جَونٌ قَويُّ المناكبِ

Against every people we have advanced with an ember,

To each people we have come with an ember

Whose dark, cloudlike host is mighty of shoulder.

With a thick neck and strong shoulders.
