فتغيب فيه وهو جثلٌ أسحمُ

A doe-eyed woman trails her hair as she stands;

A fair maiden draws from the stem of her form,

Then she vanishes within it—thick and jet-black.

Then disappears in it, while it is a jet-black trunk,

فكأنها فيه نهارٌ مشرقٌ

فكأنها فيه نهارٌ مشرقٌ

وكأنه ليلٌ عليها مظلمُ

وكأنه ليلٌ عليها مظلمُ

So within it she is like radiant daylight,

As if she were a shining daytime in it,

And it is like a dark night over her.
