ياO ربLord جبسa vile fellow قدhas indeed علاrisen فيin شانهhis standing
يا رب جبس قد علا في شانه
لاnot يسقطfalls الخردلmustard seed منfrom بنانهhis fingertips
لا يسقط الخردل من بنانه
O Lord, a vile fellow has risen high in standing.
No mustard seed falls from his fingertips.
ولاand not يريمhe stirs الدهرever منfrom مكانهhis place
ولا يريم الدهر من مكانه
أشجعbraver منthan ليثa lion علىat دكانهhis stall
أشجع من ليث على دكانه
Nor does he ever stir from his place.
Braver than a lion at his stall,
لاnot يطمعhopes السائلthe beggar فيfor رغفانهhis loaves
لا يطمع السائل في رغفانه
لمdid not يعطنيgive me الفلسthe copper coin علىdespite هوانهits paltry worth
لم يعطني الفلس على هوانه
He gives the beggar no hope of his loaves.
He did not give me a copper coin, paltry though it is.
ياO ربLord فالعنهthen curse him بترجمانهthrough his interpreter
يا رب فالعنه بترجمانه
O Lord, then curse him through his interpreter.
