قَدindeed عَرَفناwe have understood مَغزاكَyour intent ياعَيّارُO rogue
قَد عَرَفنا مَغزاكَ ياعَيّارُ
وَتَلَظَّتand blazed كَماjust as أَرَدتَyou wished النارُthe fire
وَتَلَظَّت كَما أَرَدتَ النارُ
We have understood your intent, O rogue.
We have known your purpose, oh deceiver
And the fire blazed, just as you wished.
And the fire blazed as you wished
لَمnot أَزَلI cease ثابِتاًsteadfast عَلىin الهَجرِestrangement حَتّىuntil
لَم أَزَل ثابِتاً عَلى الهَجرِ حَتّى
خَفَّwaned صَبريmy patience وَقَلَّتِand grew few الأَنصارُthe supporters
خَفَّ صَبري وَقَلَّتِ الأَنصارُ
I remained steadfast in estrangement until
I remained steadfast in estrangement until
My patience waned, and my supporters grew few.
My patience weakened and supporters dwindled
وَإِذاand when أَحدَثَbrought about الحَبيبانِthe two lovers أَمراًa matter
وَإِذا أَحدَثَ الحَبيبانِ أَمراً
كانَwas فيهِin it عَلىupon المُحِبِّthe lover الخِيارُthe choice
كانَ فيهِ عَلى المُحِبِّ الخِيارُ
And when the two lovers bring something about,
And if the two lovers initiate something
The choice in that matter falls to the lover.
The lover has the choice in it
