Tell our aloof beloved ones: gently—
Tell our aloof loved ones: take it slowly;
Train us by degrees to bear your weariness.
Accustom us gradually to enduring weariness.
إِنَّindeed ذاكَthat الصُدودَthe shunning مِنfrom غَيرِwithout جُرمٍwrongdoing
لَمdid not يَدَعleave فِيَّin me مَطمَعاًany hope بِالوِصالِof reunion
For that turning away, though we did no wrong,
Indeed, that shunning, without any wrongdoing,
Has left me no hope at all of union.
Has left me no hope of reunion.
أَحسِنواdo good فيin فِعالِكُمyour deeds أَوor أَسيؤواdo ill
لاعَدِمناكُمُmay we never be deprived of you عَلىin كُلِّevery حالِcircumstance
Do good in your deeds—or do ill;
Do good in your deeds, or do ill—
May we never be deprived of you, whatever the case.
May we never be deprived of you, whatever the case.
