Sorrow is gathered, and patience scattered.

And love, for me, is at odds and in accord.

And I have, when the owner of every eye has fallen asleep,

An eye in which tears and sleeplessness have made a pact.

Were it not for you, O gazelle of humankind who gazed,

Those eyes would never have brought me harm.

But I gazed, the companions having departed at midmorning,

With an eye from which all beauty is stolen.
