يامَنO you who رَجَعتُI returned عَلىwith كُرهٍreluctance لِطاعَتِهِto obey him
قَدindeed خالَفَresisted القَلبُthe heart لَمّاwhen طاوَعَobeyed البَدَنُthe body
O you whom I returned unwillingly to obey,
O You whom I returned to reluctantly obeying,
Indeed, the heart resisted when the body obeyed.
Though my heart resisted when my body complied.
وَكُلُّand all ماشِئتَthat you wished مِنof أَمرٍa matter رَضيتُI was content بِهِwith it
وَكُلُّand all ماthat اِختَرتَهُyou chose it عِنديin my view هُوَit الحَسَنُwhat is good
And I was content with whatever you wished in any matter,
Whatever You willed of matters, I accepted,
And whatever you chose is good in my eyes.
And whatever You chose is beautiful to me.
وَكُلَّماand whenever سَرَّنيgladdened me أَوor ساءَنيsaddened me سَبَبٌa circumstance
فَأَنتَthen you فيهِin it عَلَيَّwith regard to me الدَهرَfor all time مُؤتَمَنُtrusted
And whenever a circumstance gladdened or saddened me,
Whatever gladdened or saddened me, its cause
Then, in that, you have my trust for all time.
In it You are for eternity trusted over me.
