في الخَدِّ مِثلُ عِذارِهِ المُتَحَدِّرِ
How could the guileless, dark-eyed fawn have
Whence to the timid, bashful, fawn-eyed maid
On its cheek anything like his descending beard-down?
Comes the rose-hue that overspreads her cheek?
قَمَرٌa moon كَأَنَّas though بِعارِضَيهِon his two cheeks كِلَيهِماboth of them

مِسكاً تَساقَطَ فَوقَ وَردٍ أَحمَرِ
A moon, as though upon both his cheeks
Seems it as though the lovely moon doth hide
Musk had showered down upon a crimson rose.
'Twixt her two brows musk-scented flowers meek.
