وَمُغضٍand one refraining لِلمَهابَةِout of awe عَنfrom جَوابيanswering me
وَإِنَّthough indeed لِسانَهُhis tongue العَضبُthe keen sword الصَقيلُpolished
And one, in awe, refrains from answering me,
though his tongue is a keen, polished sword.
أَطَلتُI prolonged عِتابُهُreproaching him عَنَتاًharshly وَظُلماًand unjustly
فَجَمجَمَso he mumbled ثُمَّthen قالَhe said كَماas تَقولُyou say
I reproached him at length, harshly and unjustly;
so he mumbled, then said, “As you say.”
