And your heart's beloved was absent from a place
where the angels of heaven were present.

إِلىto مَنwhom أَشتَكيI complain وَلِمَنand to whom أُناجيI confide
إِلى مَن أَشتَكي وَلِمَن أُناجي
إِذاwhen ضاقَتgrew tight بِماwith what فيهاwithin them الصُدورُbreasts

To whom shall I complain, and in whom confide,
when breasts grow tight with what they hold?

Which praying woman's prayer will shield me?
By the radiance of whose face shall I find light?

Through whom can inexorable fate be warded off?
Through whom can a difficult matter be resolved?
