يا مَن أَتانا بِظَهرِ الغَيبِ قَولُهُمُ

لَو شِئتُ غاظَتكُمُ مِنّا الأَقاويلُ

O You who came to us from the unseen

Their words, had I wished, would have pained You

لَكِن أَرى أَنَّ في الأَقوالِ مَنقَصَةً

مالَم تُسَدَّ الأَقاويلُ الأَفاعيلُ

But I see in words a deficiency

Unless deeds fortify words
