ياطيبَO, the sweetness of لَيلَةِa night of ميلادٍChristmas لَهَوتُI made merry بِهاduring it
ياطيبَ لَيلَةِ ميلادٍ لَهَوتُ بِها
بِأَحوَرٍwith a dark-eyed one ساحِرِenchanting of العَينَينِthe two eyes مَكمورِuncircumcised
بِأَحوَرٍ ساحِرِ العَينَينِ مَكمورِ
How sweet a Christmas night when I made merry
With a dark-eyed one, enchanting of eye, uncircumcised!
وَالجَوُّand the sky يَنثُرُscatters دُرّاًpearls غَيرِnot مُنتَظِمٍstrung together
وَالجَوُّ يَنثُرُ دُرّاً غَيرِ مُنتَظِمٍ
وَالأَرضُand the earth بارِزَةٌstanding forth فيin ثَوبِa robe of كافورِcamphor
وَالأَرضُ بارِزَةٌ في ثَوبِ كافورِ
While the sky scattered pearls unstrung,
And the earth stood forth in a robe of camphor.
وَالنَرجِسُand the narcissus الغَضُّfresh يَحكيresembles حُسنُthe beauty of مَنظَرِهِits appearance
وَالنَرجِسُ الغَضُّ يَحكي حُسنُ مَنظَرِهِ
صَفراءَyellow wine صافِيَةٍclear فيin كَأسِa cup of بَلَّورِcrystal
صَفراءَ صافِيَةٍ في كَأسِ بَلَّورِ
And the fresh narcissus, in its lovely appearance, resembled
Clear golden wine in a crystal cup.
