وَأَرواحُand the lives of الفَوارِسِthe horsemen تُستَباحُare taken with impunity
I marveled, having encountered Banu Kilab,
while the horsemen’s lives were being taken with impunity:
فَكَيفَso how رَدَدتَyou turned back غَربَthe fury of الجَيشِthe army عَنهُمaway from them
وَقَدand already أَخَذَتhad taken مَآخِذَهاtheir holds الرِماحُthe spears
how, then, did you turn the army’s fury away from them,
when the spears had already taken their toll?
