قولاsay, you two لِهَذاto this السَيِّدِthe lord الماجِدِnoble
قَولَthe words of حَزينٍone grieving مِثلِهِlike him فاقِدِbereaved
Say, you two, to this noble lord,
the words of a grieving man, bereaved like him:
هَيهاتَfar from it! مافيthere is no ... among الناسِhumankind مِنany خالِدِimmortal
لابُدَّno escape مِنfrom فَقدٍloss وَمِنand from فاقِدِone bereaved
Far from it! No one among humankind is immortal;
there must be loss, and someone bereaved.
كُنِbe المُعَزّىthe one consoled لاnot المُعَزّىthe one mourned بِهِon his account
إِنif كانَit is لابُدَّno escape مِنَfrom الواحِدِone of the two
Be the one consoled, not the one mourned,
if one of the two is unavoidable.
