قَلبيmy heart يَحِنُّyearns إِلَيهِfor him
نَعَمyes وَيَحنوand feels tenderness عَلَيهِtoward him
My heart yearns for him,
yes, and is tender toward him.
وَماand never جَنىhe did wrong أَوor تَجَنّىhe falsely accused
إِلّاexcept that اِعتَذَرتُI apologized إِلَيهِto him
And never has he wronged me or falsely accused me
without my apologizing to him.
فَكَيفَso how أَملِكُI master قَلبيmy heart
وَالقَلبُand the heart رَهنٌheld in pledge لَدَيهِin his keeping
How, then, can I master my heart,
when my heart is held in pledge by him?
وَكَيفَand how أَدعوهُI call him عَبديmy slave
وَعُهدَتيand my bond فيin يَدَيهِhis hands
And how can I call him my slave,
when my bond is in his hands?
