وَفِتيانِ صِدقٍ أَمَّلوا أَن أَزورَهُم

وَفِتيانِ صِدقٍ أَمَّلوا أَن أَزورَهُم

وَما مِنهُمُ إِلّا كَريمٌ وَمِنصِفُ

وَما مِنهُمُ إِلّا كَريمٌ وَمِنصِفُ

And young men of integrity hoped that I would visit them;

And youths of truth hoped I would visit them

And none among them was anything but generous and fair.

And not one of them but was gracious and just

فَوافَيتُهُم نَشوانَ وَاللَيلُ زاحِفٌ

فَوافَيتُهُم نَشوانَ وَاللَيلُ زاحِفٌ

إِلى سائِرِ الآفاقِ وَالشَمسُ تَطرِفُ

إِلى سائِرِ الآفاقِ وَالشَمسُ تَطرِفُ

So I came to them intoxicated, while the night was creeping

So I met them blithe while night was encroaching

Toward all the horizons, and the sun was winking.

On all horizons and the sun was setting
