And an illness that left no heart without pain
A malady left no heart without pain
Spread to the quest for high honor and its summit.
It strove for the heights and their neighbors
هَلwhether تُقبَلُis accepted النَفسُthe soul عَنin place of نَفسٍa soul فَأَفدِيَهُso I may ransom him
اللَهُGod يَعلَمُknows ماتَغلوyou are not too costly عَلَيَّfor me بِهاin exchange for it
Is one soul accepted in place of another, so that I might ransom him?
Would the soul accept to ransom a soul so I ransom it
God knows you are not too costly for me at that price.
God knows what overwhelms me through it
لَئِنif indeed وَهَبتُكَI gave you نَفساًa soul لاno نَظيرَequal لَهاto it
فَماthen not سَمَحتُI was generous بِهاwith it إِلّاexcept لِواهِبِهاto its giver
If indeed I have given you a soul without equal,
If I gifted you a peerless soul
Then I have given it freely only to its giver.
I only allowed it for its Giver
