1. وَوارِدٍ مورِدٍ أُنساً يُؤَكِّدُهُ

    صُدورُهُ عَن سَليمِ الوِردِ وَالصَدرِ

    And an arrival bringing solace, confirmed

    By its issuing from one unblemished in approach and departure.

  2. شُدَّت سَحائِبُهُ مِنهُ عَلى نُزَهٍ

    تَقَسَّمَ الحُسنُ بَينَ السَمعِ وَالبَصَرِ

    Its clouds were bound over places of delight from him;

    Beauty was shared between hearing and sight.

  3. عُذوبَةٌ صَدَرَت عَن مَنطِقٍ جَدَدٍ

    كَالماءِ يَخرُجُ يُنبوعاً مِنَ الحَجَرِ

    Sweetness issued from firm speech,

    Like water emerging as a spring from stone.

  4. وَرَوضَةٌ مِن رِياضِ الفِكرِ دَبَّجَها

    صَوبُ القَرائِحِ لاصَوبٌ مِنَ المَطَرِ

    And a garden from the gardens of thought, embroidered

    By a downpour of creative gifts, not a downpour of rain.

  5. كَأَنَّما نَشَرَت أَيدي الرَبيعِ بِها

    بُرداً مِنَ الوَشيِ أَو ثَوباً مِنَ الحِبرِ

    As though the hands of spring had spread within it

    A mantle of embroidery, or a robe of striped cloth.
