وَشادِنٍ مِن بَني كِسرى شُغِفتُ بِهِ

وَشادِنٍ مِن بَني كِسرى شُغِفتُ بِهِ

لَو كانَ أَنصَفَني في الحُبِّ ماجارا

لَو كانَ أَنصَفَني في الحُبِّ ماجارا

And a young gazelle of Kisra's line—I am smitten with him.

A lad from the sons of Chosroe enchanted me,

Had he treated me fairly in love, he would not have wronged me.

Had he been just to me in love, he would not have fought against me.

إِن زارَ قَصَّرَ لَيلي في زِيارَتِهِ

إِن زارَ قَصَّرَ لَيلي في زِيارَتِهِ

وَإِن جَفاني أَطالَ اللَيلَ أَعمارا

وَإِن جَفاني أَطالَ اللَيلَ أَعمارا

If he visits, he shortens my night during his visit.

When he visits, he shortens my night with his visit,

And if he shuns me, he stretches the night into lifetimes.

And when he is harsh to me, he lengthens my night into ages.

كَأَنَّما الشَمسُ بي في القَوسِ نازِلَةٌ

كَأَنَّما الشَمسُ بي في القَوسِ نازِلَةٌ

إِن لَم يَزُرني وَفي الجَوزاءِ إِن زارا

إِن لَم يَزُرني وَفي الجَوزاءِ إِن زارا

It is as though the sun, for me, were dwelling in Sagittarius

It is as if the sun in its orbit descends upon me,

If he does not visit me, and in Gemini if he visits.
