جَنىcommitted an offense جانٍan offender وَأَنتَand you عَلَيهِtoward him حانٍcompassionate
وَعادَand he repeated it فَعُدتُso I responded again بِالكَرمِwith generosity الغَزيرِabundant
An offender did wrong, yet you showed him compassion.
The harvest is ripe while you watch over it
And he did it again, so I again showed lavish generosity.
And he who departed has returned through my abundant generosity
صَبَرتُI was patient عَلَيهِwith him حَتّىuntil جاءَhe came طَوعاًwillingly
إِلَيكَto you وَتِلكَand that عاقِبَةُthe outcome الصَبورِof the patient person
I was patient with him until he came willingly
I was patient with him until he came willingly
To you—and such is the outcome for the patient.
And such is the consequence for those who endure
فَإِنso if تَكُthere be عَدلَةٌa turning aside فيin الجِسمِthe body كانَتoccurred
فَماthen not عَدَلَturned away الضَميرُthe heart عَنِfrom الضَميرِthe heart
Even if the body has turned aside,
If justice resides in the body, it would be
One heart has not turned away from the other.
For the conscience cannot deviate from conscience
وَمِثلُand one like أَبيAbu فِراسٍFiras مَنone who تَجافىshowed forbearance
لَهُfor his sake عَنfrom فِعلِهِhis deed مِثلُone like الأَميرِthe emir
And one like Abu Firas is one shown forbearance
And my father, Abi Firas, is like one who avoids
For his deed by one like the emir.
Acting like a prince avoiding his actions
