صاحِبٌ لَمّا أَساءَ

أَتبَعَ الدَلوَ الرَشاءَ

sent the rope after the bucket.

Follow the leaking bucket

رُبَّ داءٍ لا أَرى مِن

هُ سِوى الصَبرِ شِفاءَ

هُ سِوى الصَبرِ شِفاءَ

Many an ailment—I see no

Many an illness I see no cure for

cure for it but patience.

Except patience to heal

أَحمَدُ اللَهَ عَلى ما

أَحمَدُ اللَهَ عَلى ما

سَرَّ مِن أَمري وَساءَ

سَرَّ مِن أَمري وَساءَ

I praise God for what

I thank God for whatever

has brought joy and sorrow in my affairs.
