وَظَبيٍand a gazelle غَريرٍguileless فيin فُؤاديmy heart كِناسُهُhis covert
إِذاwhen اِكتَنَسَtakes shelter العَينُthe wide-eyed gazelles الفَلاةَthe wilderness وَحَورُهاand its dark-eyed ones
And a guileless gazelle has his covert in my heart,
A fawn with a tender bleat nestled in my heart
when the wide-eyed and dark-eyed gazelles take shelter in the wilderness.
When the eye sweeps the wilderness and its pastures
تُقِرُّconcede لَهُto him بيضُthe white ones الظِباءِof the gazelles وَأُدمُهاand their tawny ones
وَيَحكيهِand resembles him فيin بَعضِsome الأُمورِmatters غَريرُهاtheir guileless one
The white and tawny gazelles acknowledge his superiority,
The eggs of the gazelles testify to it and their fawn fur
and their guileless one resembles him in certain ways.
And its tender bleat tells it in some matters
فَمِنso from خَلقِهِhis physical form لِبّاتُهاtheir throat hollows وَنُحورُهاand their upper chests
وَمِنand from خُلقِهِhis nature عِصيانُهاtheir defiance وَنُفورُهاand their skittishness
So from his form come their throat hollows and upper chests,
So it is his nature to spend the night with it and its throat
and from his nature, their defiance and skittishness.
And it is his nature to disobey it and avoidance
