Your veil holds wine for my heart,

And beneath its darkness dawn gleams.

It bears a likeness to the moon's radiance,

And those threads unfasten the rings.

From the eye my heart went out to you,

And your eye tears through its veils.

And this silk, and this fragrance,

Both adorn the lovesick lover's desires.

Is relief from you the outcome of patience?

And delay has already exhausted its excuses.

In your veil, passion has fermented,

And the breeze passed over it, flattering it.

How long will you guard the most tempting fruit,

When this pomegranate of your bosom has split open?

You turn my hand away from plucking it,

And in its shade the heart has a noonday resting place.

I shall clasp your form by its curve,

Even if a burnished sword should cleave my breast.

Your sash yearns for Umar's sword,

So it brings unease to eye and heart.

Your young man has obeyed beauty's command,

And my Lord created my heart for yours.
