إذاwhen قصَّرَfell short الحُسَّادُthe envious عنof عَمَلِwork الجِدِّearnestness
إذا قصَّرَ الحُسَّادُ عن عَمَلِ الجِدِّ
تشَفَّواthey gratified their spite بأقوالٍwith words تشِفُّreveal عَنِof الحِقدِrancor
تشَفَّوا بأقوالٍ تشِفُّ عَنِ الحِقدِ
When the envious fall short of earnest labor,
If the envious fall short of earnest work
They gratify their spite with words that betray their rancor.
They find relief in words that ease their spite
سَتُكسِبُهُمwill impart to them علماًknowledge مناظَرَتيmy debate لهمwith them
سَتُكسِبُهُم علماً مناظَرَتي لهم
كماjust as أكسَبَتbestowed طيباًfragrance مجاورةُproximity to الوَردthe roses
كما أكسَبَت طيباً مجاورةُ الوَرد
My debating with them will impart knowledge to them,
Disputing them will give them knowledge from me
Just as proximity to roses has bestowed fragrance.
